If you are a sufferer of type 2 diabetes, then you may have run across the drug Rezulin. Rezulin was proven effective in the treatment of type 2 diabetes but presented several risks. So much so that in March of 2000 the FDA asked the producers of Rezulin to stop production of the drug. The purpose of this article is to answer some commonly asked questions regarding rezulin and advise you on what you should do if you were prescribed it for treatment.

Who takes Rezulin?
People with type 2 diabetes were frequently prescribed resulin because it was proven effective against the disese.There were alternative medicines but Rezulin yielded the best results.

Why was Rezulin recalled?
Rezulin was shown to be associated with liver diseases. It has been shown to be quite toxic to the liver and poses an unacceptable risk to those who take rezulin. There are two other known type 2 diabetes medication, Avondia and Actos. Both drugs did not yielded the same effects as rezulin but also posed little or no effects on the liver. It was largely due to the availability of these other 2 medicines that the FDA asked that Rezulin be taken off of the market.

Is Rezulin allowed at all?
Yes, The FDA has approved limited use for Rezulin. Rezulin is still allowed to be prescribed to those patients, that alternative therapies have had little or no effect. Rezulin is effective so they are allowed to continue with it. However, close monitoring is required as well as stringent warning and selection process.

What should I do if I have been prescribed Rezulin?
Well unless you have tried and failed with other treatments you really should be taking it. Speak to your doctor about alternative treatments, they may work for you. If you are in the approved group of resoling users then just keep you follow up appointments with your doctor and report anything that does not seem right.

What if I have suffered liver damage because of Rezulin?
You need to get legal advice. A medical malpractice lawyer will be able to give you the best advice and put you in the appropriate course of action.
