The drug Raxar was given FDA approval in August 1997 and then recalled two months later in October 1997. Raxar was intended for to treating infections. A wide variety of infections were treated with Raxar among these were pneumonia, bronchitis and a few sexually transmitted infections. However, Raxar has been linked to some serious side effects that could prove fatal. Raxar was linked to interference with the hearts QT intervals. This can lead to a condition known as vernacular arrhythmia which quite often is fatal. The company that created raxar, Glaxo Smith Kline committed FDS violations as well. They were accused of giving misleading information regarding Raxar and were also blamed for not providing enough warnings about the drugs side effects.

In the time Raxar was on the market over two and a half million prescriptions were written, giving the potential for serious harm to be done.
