Staff shortages, long hours, low pay, poor training and overcrowding are some of the main reasons cited for nursing home abuse. Nursing home abuse can take many forms the most widely obvious is physical abuse but it can take on several different forms. Some elderly residents have reported, verbal abuse, sexual abuse, restricted rights pertaining to sleeping hours and coming and going. Some nursing home abuse takes the form of being denied food or general neglect. Some are put in overcrowded and unclean facilities. Nursing homes are places for care and should not be used as houses for abuse. We would all agree that the elderly people in our lives deserve better than this. My Mother is 87 and has been in a nursing home for 6 years. She is constantly compaining that they don\\\\\\\'t give her her meals on time and that she doesn\\\\\\\'t get enough exercise. She can\\\\\\\'t get around well on her own. I feel it is a good facility but I think they are overcrowded and understaffed. I can\\\\\\\'t afford expensive legal fees but I need to help my mother to get the bext care she can have.
