Divorce and Divorce Lawyers

Free Family Law Case Review

With the American divorce rate hanging at about 50%, it's quite commonplace to have neighbors, friends, or relatives who have experienced a permanent separation.

With divorces come many different issues. For instance, even in the most amicable divorce situation, there is usually property that needs to be divided between the couple. Though it might be easy to sift through books or CDs, it can be harder to figure out who gets to keep family photos, cars, or items that were jointly purchased. And what about the house? Who gets to live in the three-bedroom, two bath home that was only recently built?

The divorcing individuals may also have jointly owned a business; what will become of it? At first, it's easy to say, "We'll just run it together. After all, we're still buddies - we just couldn't get along when we were married!" That's fine... until one of the parties remarries or both parties have a falling out that they cannot resolve.

If children are involved in a divorce, the situation becomes even stickier. Custody battles are frequent, and joint custody, while seemingly "fair", can be fraught with problems. If one of the divorcing parties moves a distance away, what happens to the child? How can the relationship between the offspring and that parent be kept intact when the miles between them is sizeable? These are situations when finding a divorce lawyer helps

The issue of children also usually brings up questions of child support. This adds to the mess and stress of divorce proceedings.

Divorce, whether between friends or adversaries, is best done with legal assistance. A good family law attorney can help smooth out the wrinkles between the divorcing couple, making the process go as smoothly as possible. Though it's never easy, a divorce doesn't have to dissolve into months (or even years) of painful court proceedings. With the help of an effective, efficient family law lawyer, the divorce can be settled without involving the courts more than is needed or expected.

My divorce has become very messy. I dont think the attorney I hired is capable of handling it any more. I want to hire a new one but I have already paid a retainer.
