The topic of erectile dysfunction has never been a popular one. In fact, it's downright embarrassing, no matter how many times Bob Dole tries to paint it as a normal part of aging. For men, the loss of "performance" is akin to a snake losing its bite. Enter Viagra, the blue pill with the funny name that continues to be chomped on in the hopes of a night of true romance.

For men who choose to take Viagra, whether obtained legally through a physician or illegally on the "black market" or through a friend's supply, the pill is a true roll of the dice. Unfortunately, most males just assume it'll be a roll in the hay. Then, they forget about it. Some guys, though, aren't lucky enough to forget about it.

That's because Viagra, that simple little blue pill, is potentially hazardous to patients' eyesights. Recent research has concluded that users of Viagra may wind up blind, either temporarily or permanently (though the former is certainly better than the latter, it's still a terrifying experience.) That's one side effect that no one saw coming... or did they?

There's evidence to suggest that Pfizer, the maker of Viagra, may have known exactly what could happen to thousands of men when it put its erectile dysfunction "miracle drug" on the market. In 2005, a class action lawsuit filed against Pfizer by many who suffered damages brought to light the stunning realization that perhaps pharmaceutical companies don't "tell all" when advertising their products. And maybe the Food and Drug Administration is a little quick on the draw to send a drug like Viagra into the blood streams of the male population.

Viagra In The News

Viagra, the little blue pill that's been touted for several years as the greatest thing for the bedroom since dust ruffles, is now the subject of a number of class action lawsuits filed against its maker, Pfizer, in 2005.

Claims that Viagra is not a harmless little antidote to erectile dysfunction have been around since 2000 when a lawsuit was filed. In it, a gentleman who used Viagra attacked the drug as causing him to have a heart attack. Though the suit was thrown out by the courts, Pfizer still lost a great deal of dollars to fight the case. And the reputation of Viagra was tarnished, but not sullied enough to stop men from experimenting with the medication (whether it was prescribed or not.)

Five years later, a much more complex class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of numerous Viagra users whose vision was compromised after using the drug. Even Pfizer was forced to admit that a small number of participants in a Viagra study were struck with "optical neuropathy", a fancy phrase for what is essentially stroke of the eye. Interestingly, Viagra's manufacturer had failed to mention that men might go completely or partially blind by taking the little blue pill.

After the lawsuit hit the papers, Viagra's stock did somersaults as risk-averse investors fled from the tainted Pfizer. Not wanting to be associated with Pfizer, many who had touted Viagra or erectile dysfunction temporarily disappeared into the shadows. Even though the evidence was only based on a few cases, it had a major impact which shook the pharmaceutical world.

What probably concerns Pfizer's team of lawyers the most is the fact that millions of men across the globe have used Viagra. As word of this new class action lawsuit spreads, many who might have been embarrassed to admit they used Viagra and consequently suffered optic damage (whether temporary or permanent) will finally come forward. That will mean plenty of money lost for Pfizer as it attempts to not only settle the Viagra lawsuits but also clean up its image.

Only time will tell if Viagra will stay on the market forever. No doubt the recent lawsuits have interrupted studies of other erectile dysfunction drugs, which may in fact be a good thing. Just ask the plaintiffs in the lawsuit who had to deal with a side effect of Viagra they never saw coming.

If Viagra cause you or someone you love undue sufferring and and pain, you may be entitled to pursue a lawsuit based on your loss. Let our dedicated and experienced Viagra lawyers help you get the compensation you deserve, and put Pfizer on notice that you will no longer be a silent victim of their shortsightedness.
