Tekturna Lawsuits & Lawyers

First approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2007, the blood-pressure drug Tekturna is now facing increasing questions about its safety and defending itself in the court system against lawsuits that have been filed by victims of serious side effects linked to the medication. Allegations made in Tekturna lawsuits include claims that use of the drug can cause serious kidney problems and strokes, among other health problems. Lawyers for these Tekturna victims are currently in the process of seeking evidence from the drug’s manufacturer and documenting the victims’ damages, which include their medical costs, lost wages, the pain and suffering they have incurred as well as other expenses.

In many drug defect cases so many lawsuits are filed that they wind up being consolidated into what are known as class-action cases. This is done to help keep the court system clogged up and is beneficial to the plaintiffs because such cases may involve large settlements being paid out to the victims for the medical costs and other damages that they have suffered. Our experienced team of Tekturna lawyers has aggressively pursued such cases on behalf of our clients and we are currently reviewing claims that are being made by Tekturna victims.
We offer a free consultation in which we will provide a review that is sensitive to your legal needs and provide you with a comprehensive, informed analysis of what legal options are available to you. In the event that a lawsuit is filed we will begin the process of gathering evidence on your behalf. Such cases typically involve detailed gathering of information from company files and investigating the thoroughness of the testing of the medication and what company officials knew or didn’t know about the dangers of the drug.

Although concerns have been raised about the safety of Tekturna (aliskiren) in the past a serious warning flag was raised when pharmaceutical parent Novartis announced that it was discontinuing a respected clinical trial of the oral hypertension medication after preliminary results found an increased risk for non-fatal stroke, renal complications, hyperkalemia, and hypotension in patients taking aliskiren after 18-24 months.
In a press release, company officials said “Patient safety is the highest priority and Novartis is in a dialogue with health authorities worldwide. Patients should contact their health care provider if they have any concerns.”

While the press release attempted to downplay the findings,  FORBES MAGAZINE put the seriousness in perspective:

The company is also recommending that physicians not prescribe drugs containing aliskiren with either an ACE inhibitor or an ARB. Patients who are already taking a combination pill should be switched to an alternative anti-hypertensive regimen, according to the company. The action represents a major setback for a drug that had once been thought to have blockbuster potential. Novartis said it was immediately ceasing all promotion of products containing aliskiren and was talking with health authorities about the implications of the findings.

Many Americans suffer from high blood pressure and the use of medications such as Tekturna to treat this problem has generated millions of prescriptions and huge profits for pharmaceutical firms. Such medications are required to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration after careful scrutiny and numerous clinical trials. When problems surface after a drug has been approved and commonly prescribed the FDA requires changes in warning labels such as has been done with Tekturna.

The medication was designed to address hypertension by preventing blood vessels from constricting and lowering the levels of water content in the body. Tekturna originally listed side effects that are common – and less serious – to many other medications, such as the possibility of suffering nausea, chills, fatigue, digestive problems, fevers, headaches and muscle soreness. However, in recent years and in the wake of a terminated international clinical trial the following dangerous side effects have been reported:

  • Strokes
  • Kidney damage
  • Kidney failures
  • High potassium levels
  • Low blood pressure

If you or a loved one has suffered any of these side effects or others due to the use of Tekturna in treating hypertension you may be entitled to compensation for your medical costs, pain and suffering and other expenses. Please contact our experienced Tekturna lawyers as soon as possible for a free consultation about the legal options that may be available to you. Be aware that there may be time limits in filing a legal action so please contact us as soon as possible to preserve all of your legal rights.
