| I had four back surgeries for a bulging disc, between Dec 29th, 2005 and January 13th 2006. They failed and I contracted spinal menengitis, mrsa, osteomyelitis and dvt. I have neuropathy in both legs and am considered disabled. My pain level has been increasing over the last year and a half and I was put on methadone, beginning with 5 mg every 8hrs up to 20 mgs every 8 hrs, which I am on now. I am still having increasing pain with minimal if any relief from the methadone. I have developed a very "wet" productve cough, insomnia and generally feel terrible. When I visit my physician this month I will tell him I want off this medication. After reading all of these problems it really scares me, I am almost 62 years old, not able to do much of anything due to the pain and I certainly don't need any of the heart complications. It makes me wonder if the cough I have isn"t related to the methadone, a precursor to heart problems, I am not sick and have no other respiratory symptoms nor can I find anything to quiet this cough. One last thought if I may, I wear dentures so I wouldn't have the problems with teeth that so many people seem to have. | |

| I also was a chronic patient for years that started with an early total hip replacement that was done when I was 34. It was put in, on a wrong angle and I was in the ER almost ever 3 months with dislocations. I never imagined less than 10 years I would have to have a hip revision of the same hip and all the aparatus replaced. My doctor had my on Oxycontine which I did not like. Then he put me on a high dosage of Methadone. On my own, I weaned myself down to only 2 10 mg tablets a day. However, my teeth are also affected. I had such beutiful teeth and was told years ago by a dentist that my teeth would last me a lifetime. I am diligent with my dental cleaning and check ups. Now my teeth are also crumbling right before my eyes and I'm going broke just having to have caps put in. If I had only known this was going to be the cause of taking Methadone. I certainly never would have taken them. Help! I need some advice........... | |

| I live in Rochester NY. I have had nothing but great teeth for my whole life and I am an recovering addict from opiate use. While I was using I never had any teeth problems. However I have now been taking 150 mg. of liquid methadose daily through the clinic I have been going to for the past 2 years and I now have 3 cavities that I know of and no i also have very weak teeth. I have asked the clinic if methadose cause's teeth problems but they say that it doesn't. My fiance takes methadose as well at the same clinic and his teeth are now just as bad and even far worse then mine. i have noticed from talking to a few people at the clinic and from my fiance's teeth and my own that a lot of us are getting cavities towards the back part of are mouth near the molars facing our checks and then it deteriorates even more from there. i think when we take it some how it builds up the most in the back of the mouth near the molars facing our checks. I only have medicaid and i cant really find a dentist that is willing to take medicaid and fix the tooth instead of pulling it. And my fiance has no insurance so the most we can probably do for him is just have them all pulled and have to pay a lot of money just for that. Is there anything we can do for my fiance and myself towards having them fixed. I have a copy of my x-rays from right before i started the methadose program showing how my teeth were before. Is there anything we can do to have our teeth fixed for free? is there anything we can do? | |

| I feel that my teeth were absolutely affected by the methadone. And I feel like I should have been warned of the dangers, not only for my teeth but my heart. | |

| My son, 34, died in August, 2008. He had been taking methadone, 50 mg. for four months. His doctor also prescribed Soma and Restoril. I believe either the combination of the three prescription drugs or a heart arythmia caused his death. He was healthy enough to snorkle and scuba dive. Methadone is a deadly drug with it's extremely long half-life and toxicity. I believe it should not be prescribed for pain. Many times it is because it is cheap that it is prescribed. | |

| Methadone is destroying teeth, as a certified dental assistant and pain management pt I know, the Dr finally believed me it was from the methadone. He knows I am on the RX, and has no problems with It, for it has never affected my job nor performance, only teeth, my 2 front centrals, your front 2 teeth were so thin, they actually broke in 1/2. I used to open beer bottles with my teeth when younger, they were so strong. | |
