Gardasil Adverse Side Effects

Despite all the commercial success, it wasn’t long before troubling reports regarding Gardasil side effects began to surface.  For instance, there have been over 8,000 adverse effect reports filed with the government regarding Gardasil, and to date, 18 deaths have been allegedly linked to the use of this drug.  These deaths were primarily in younger females, and the youngest to perish was only 11 years old after she suffered a sudden heart attack soon after receiving this injection.

There are other symptoms and adverse effects allegedly linked to this medication, and examples of them include:

  • Seizures
  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome
  • Convulsions
  • Spontaneous abortion
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Paralysis
  • Optic lesions
  • Coma
  • Death

Gardasil Injections and Intended Treatment

Gardasil was the result of years of research performed by technicians at Merck & Co., one of the true giants of the pharmaceutical industry.  The drug was basically used to help fight off the invasion of a virus that had been linked to the ultimate and eventual development of cervical cancer.  This virus is known as HPV, or the human papillomavirus.

Women of all ages were urged to seek treatment that was preventative in nature with Gardasil, and the protocol involved receiving three different injections of the drug over the course of several weeks.  This urging was done by way of a massive advertising campaign that centered on television and even advertising in movie theaters.

Apparently, the campaign produced positive revenue results, as estimates indicate that 8 million women in the United States alone have received Gardasil injections.  The average cost for this treatment is approximately $360, and the SEC reported that Merck & Co. enjoyed annual revenue of $1.5 billion from Gardasil alone.

Contact a Gardasil Lawyer

If you are either considering taking Gardasil or are in the course of taking it, you need to act immediately to address your concerns.  Speak frankly with your doctor about the potential risks involved with this medication, and make the best decision for yourself regarding whether or not you feel that this course of action is advisable.  If you or someone you love has suffered as a result of Gardasil injections, you should also seek legal advice from a Gardasil lawyer or attorney as soon as possible, as you may be well-advised to evaluate and even pursue a claim.
