Enbrel Black Box Warning
Enbrel is manufactured by Immunex Corporation and marketed in the US by Amgen and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
Enbrel is a drug that is used to treat many types of autoimmune diseases, also used for children with arthritis. It works by interfering with the TNF receptor and acts as a TNF inhibitor.
Immunex Corporation has stated on their website “Serious infections have happened in patients taking ENBREL. These infections include tuberculosis (TB) and infections caused by viruses, fungi, or bacteria that have spread throughout the body. Some patients have died from these infections. Your doctor should test you for TB before you take ENBREL and monitor you closely for TB while on ENBREL.”

The FDA has published information on the FDA.gov site and states the following:
FDA has asked the makers of the TNF blockers approved for use in children (Remicade, Enbrel, and Humira) to provide information about all cases of cancer reported in children taking TNF blockers. The maker of Cimzia is required to conduct a study to assess long-term risks of the product, including lymphoma and other cancers. This study will begin in 2009 and take about 10 years to complete. FDA has contacted medical experts to assess the potential association between TNF blockers and cancers, including lymphoma, and to determine if there are children and young adults with JIA and Crohn’s disease who may be at particular risk for developing a lymphoma or other cancer.
The FDA has also noted that there is an increase the risk of cancer after the drugs were used for longer than two and a half years.

My husband took enbryl for months after he stopped( medicare not pay for it) within 3 months he notice lump under right arm.June 2011 after 2 biopsy Pathologists still cannot determine what the sarcoma is except HIGH GRADE He has had one chemo treatment & b 4 2nd treatment developed MRSA and was in the hospital 4 weeks. When he was released he was back in within 3 days for another week. He has been out now and has under gone radiation treatment 4 10 sessions. Docs. tell him to go home and get his business in order and enjoy what time he has left. I am not understanding this at all. Anyone having these symptoms please help

My mom was on enbrel for several years. Stopped taking it about 7 months ago. She was just diagnosed with leukemia. She has deteriorated very bad within a year. Also having 3 heart attacks within 4 months.

I've been taking enbrel drug in a pre filled pen for 7 months now I was feeling ill my eye whites went yellow and my skin yellow too I went in to hospital and have been diagnosed with drug induced liver failure due to the enbrel according to my consultant .

On Enbrel since 05 & I don't meet any of the profiles for any cancers, howerver, in Feb 2011 I developed Inflammatory Breast Cancer (extremely rare and very aggressive.) After chemo, left mastectomy, lymph node removal, & radiation a CT scan shows IBC in nodes under my right arm. I'm in chemo again & will need another mastectomy followed up with radiation and oral chemo.

My husband Anatol nearly died last year from Histoplasmos and sever liver damage. He had been on Enbril for over 6 years. The doctors tried to blame the diease on being incontact with birds in his past. He spent 5 weeks in the hospital on different drugs before they found one to help. I wanted to know if there is a lawsuit in Canada?

I have Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis.I was diagnosed with psoriasis November 1994,PA- May 13,1995.I was presribed Enbrel early 2004 was on it for about 2 years.February 2,2006 I was diagnosed with Testicular Cancer.My left testicle was removed.I made a choice to never use any Dangerous,Toxic Prescription drugs ever again.I just had blood work done several days ago,Cancer free.The FDA should be accountable for approving these drugs.I just don't know how the FDA and the pharmaceutical Industry can manufacture poisonous chemicals and legally sell them as Medicine.

after taking enbrel for 5 years igot malignant kidney cancer and it had to be removed leaving me with one kidny an no medicine to take for my R/A please help this drug id deadly and should be takin off the market it was from the enbrel my dr said !!!!!!
